There’s a reason my tag line is “Finding Joy in Living Simply”. Kindness Rocks are such a perfect fulfillment of that mantra. There’s so much joy to go around if you’ll just look for it.
Kindness Rocks always bring a smile
I’m originally from Augusta, Georgia and about a year ago, I noticed people from there painting rocks and ‘leaving/hiding’ them for folks to ‘hunt/find’ in the community. I thought it was cool but didn’t pay much attention to it since I’m not creative and can barely sign my name, much less, paint a rock and have it look like anything other than, well, a rock!
After a while, I kept seeing different friends from Augusta talking online about how a rock brightened their day when they found it.
Hmmm, you know I’m all about spreading some joy. This also looked like a way to do it very inexpensively. Well, after looking on Facebook in my area to see if we had a local rock group and finding nothing, I decided to start one. Typical sanguine, right… we bring the party with us!
In March of 2017, Henry County Rocks was born! Oh yes, I do believe that is Tyler Perry holding an official Henry County Rock! That pic was taken at the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta! Y’all, we have had more fun with this whole rock thing and in just one year, we’ve grown to over 3,400 people! Not all the members of the group are from our area. Some are from afar and just happened upon one of our rocks. There are some amazing artists in our group too. People of all talent levels can do this.
That’s why I paint rocks…
because ANYONE can do this y’all. My very first post about rocks has been very popular (over 3,000 shares!) and it happened while we were all gathered at my house during Hurricane Irma.
My friend, Lisa, (you know, #everyoneshouldhavealisa) and her whole crew came over that night and we produced some amazing rocks!!! But lately, my rocks are more inspirational than anything. One member of our little group painted a bunch of rocks one day with quotes on them of encouragement. They took them all down to a set of doctors’ offices that specialized in the treatment of cancer. The person put them all over. They were in the parking lot where someone would notice them. There was a rock on a waiting bench. They even put a rock on the counter where someone would stand to sign in at the desk. Later that day, someone joined our little Facebook group and posted a picture of the rock and said they had gotten a diagnosis that day they hadn’t expected. This rock was a gentle reminder that God is still in control, even in the chaos.
Even a rock can spread a little joy
So here’s how you can join this amazing Kindness Rock movement.
- Search Facebook for a local rock group. I’m willing to bet there’s one close.
- Get some simple supplies (I’ve listed my favorites below)
- Paint and hide!
Y’all, I’m telling you, this is so fun and so fullfilling.
So let’s get to painting and spreading some joy together!
Keep it Simple,
