What does a family meeting look like?
When you have 2 teen boys, a husband that is a pilot, and the mom that just feels like she does EVERYTHING else, it’s challenging to feel any sense of unity.
I mentioned to a friend yesterday, about an issue that came up in our family meeting. She said, “wait, your what meeting?” I said, “our family meeting. we try to sit down for just a few minutes once a week or so and just ‘meet’. ” She was amazed. I guess a year ago, I wouldn’t have even thought of it either but then I started talking to other moms and we’re all facing the same challenges.
How do we achieve unity, closeness, communication and peace in our homes?
I’d like to share with you all what our family meetings look like.
Pick and choose what works for you.
These are not naturally occurring. The first few will be weird. We have a family of 4 so I created a spreadsheet to facilitate and help us out. I will try to come back and upload it later.
We start off with a prayer of thanks.
Our first order of business is positive comments about each family member. You can fill in names if you like. Each person takes a turn saying something positive about someone whether it was an accomplishment or just praise for a good attitude about something.
Next anyone that wants to is allowed to bring up issues. These can be big or small. He keeps taking my socks even though I’ve asked him not to. Can everyone please start hanging up your own coats? You get the picture.
Next we talk about what meals we’d like to have that week. And next to that is what tests and events on are the calendar that week.
Lastly, we ask each family member for prayer requests so that we can all lift each other up in prayer each week.
That’s it y’all. Super easy, super simple. That also makes it super easy to NOT do it.
But don’t skip this… trust me, you will love it. Make it your own. Make it work for your family.
Here are some devotionals we’ve used in our time together…
Keep it Simple!
