Y’all, I’m about to make your mouth water!!
It’s finally football season and I couldn’t be more excited for great food, great family time, cooler weather, having people over, meat candy, queso dip, and sitting on the couch under a blanket with my crew.
Did you just notice something??
I didn’t say anything about football.
Now, I love to root for my Georgia Bulldogs but seriously, it’s a game. All the rest of that stuff that I love so much is happening because of the game! So that’s the real reason I love football season!!
The Dawgs start their season tonight and I sure hope they can beat App State. We’re having some friends over and it’s going on all three TVs!!
In the crockpot right now is some queso. My boys requested cheese dip and honestly, I usually buy it in the tub. But you know what? I read those ingredients… ugh. If Trim Healthy Mama has taught me anything, it has been to READ THE LABEL!!! So off to Pinterest I go…
I typed in ‘queso’ dip and just put about 3 recipes together. I bought some sliced american cheese from Boar’s Head. I got some Butterkase cheese (you know that really smooth kind? yum!) from the deli counter. Then I added some greek cream cheese. (That counts as protein right?) Then added just a little bit of butter, milk and a can of Rotel.
Oh. My. Stars.
It’s so yum!
Then we’ll use Baked Tostito Scoops for them to cut the carbs down and it’s ALMOST on plan with THM. (Not fully though but I’m at goal weight and no one else around here really cares!)
Then there’s the meat candy…
You’re welcome… I must absolutely credit the Pioneer Woman for this and you can find her original post HERE.
My neighbor tasted them once and said, “Oh my gosh, it’s bacon and it’s like candy… It’s meat candy!” So that’s what we all call it now.
It’s a game day favorite.
It’s not even remotely on plan with Trim Healthy Mama but it’s super simple!
Start with the crackers and dip them in the parm…
Then cut the whole package of bacon in half with kitchen scissors and start to wrap… cheap bacon works best…
Then place on a cooling rack that is on a pan that you foil line… you’ll thank me for the foil tip later…
Then keep going…
250 degree oven for 2 hours.
That’s right… 2 hours. Your house will smell like bacon so your whole family will be happy. It’s true. Bacon makes people happy.
That’s it y’all. Go Dawgs and
Keep it Simple
