I gotta be honest… I’m a little more than excited that school is back in session. The joy of labeling all their new school supplies, getting to know their teachers, watching them get on the bus, the smiles on their faces as they get off the bus in the afternoon, my hubby having a great schedule and getting to help with homework, getting to visit with girls at school also helping out. Wednesday mornings are my volunteer mornings. I get to go up there and just do whatever they need me to do. I check with all three teachers on Tuesday afternoon and then Wednesday morning, they have a little ‘to do’ pile for me. It’s usually organizing something, making folders, cutting things out, sharpening pencils (does anything smell more new and organized than that??), or just making copies. I figure, it’s the least I can do since they are imparting wisdom to my kid all day! And I bring them a cold beverage of their choice. This year I have a Dr. Pepper fan and two others that just like diet whatever. Happy to do it.
While unpacking the other day, someone called to ask me something and it occurred to me that I had neglected to blog about our garage organization and the coat closets out there! Really?? That was months ago!!! So here ya go… this was before (you know how much I love before pictures!!!)
oh my stars… stuff everywhere… and this is a picture of it ‘neatened up’. Grrr.
this is where the shoes used to live. ugh!
this was the ‘message board’ so to speak. not very useful and way too big! But I got it at a yard sale so it worked for a while. Took up too much wall space for my taste though.
And here is the after party!!! Woo hoo!
Thanks to Ikea, this project was not nearly as expensive as it looks!
These closets came from Ikea and they are the perfect size for the boys. Below is a picture of the inside of them. Check out Thoughts in Vinyl for the source of my lettering on the closets. You will love her and she’s reasonable and fast!
These little hooks came from Ikea too and they fit perfectly on the hanger bar in the closets for the boys. They do much better hanging their coats on a hook rather than doing hangers. We love this arrangement and it’s working beautifully!
Ikea bench for flip flops, yard shoes, and boots.
Letters from the girl at Thoughts in Vinyl again. This is very handy since I can just open the door and toss stuff in. Chuck empties it into the big recycling bin once a day or so when he goes out.
|Great way to keep things in their places. Ahhhh, don’t you feel better now? I do!
One last photo of before/after:… actually, I just noticed this is really ‘after THEN before’. Oh bother.
So there you have it folks! The original plan was to ‘build’ some sort of mud room out there and I think it would have been several thousand dollars worth of coat closet. Good grief. This plan was much less expensive, much faster and much neater. The garage is untouched as far as the size of it. The other plan would have made it feel much smaller. I’m thinking of getting some lettering from her to copy this look below… what do y’all think??
Until next time,
Y’all Keep it Simple!
